Celebrate World Lion Day and World Elephant Day
| Dear Friend,
August is a special month as we celebrate World Lion Day and World Elephant Day.
National Geographic Contributing Members support Explorers who are taking urgent and immediate action to protect wildlife. Their efforts range from supporting park rangers who keep wildlife safe from poachers to working with local communities to create sustaining peace between lions, elephants, and people for generations to come.
Starting TODAY, thanks to the generosity several Society donors, you can DOUBLE your impact through a match to the National Geographic Society. Every dollar you donate will be matched 1:1 thanks to this special opportunity!
Your $35 gift turns into $70, your $50 gift increases to $100 – multiplying your contribution's impact on the work our Explorers are doing to protect wildlife.
Can I count on your contribution today?
| With support from people like you, our Explorers illuminate and protect the wonder of our world. They are out in the field, working tirelessly to research and preserve critical ecosystems, organizing with local communities to promote environmental advocacy, discovering sustainable solutions to the world's greatest environmental challenges, and educating people around the world about how and why we must restore and protect our planet.
Conservationist, National Geographic Explorer, and the National Geographic Society’s first Explorer Trustee, Paula Kahumbu has dedicated her career to defending vulnerable elephant populations in Kenya, and is inspiring the next generation of conservationists and wildlife warriors. Through her work, Paula takes youth in Kenya to visit national parks and reserves throughout the country, connecting them more deeply to their environment and motivating them to protect it.
Many children in Kenya have never had the opportunity to experience the country’s national parks and reserves. Through education and outreach, Paula hosts camping expeditions each year for local youth to learn about the environment, critically vulnerable species inhabiting the parks, and the conservation efforts of scientists and communities coexisting with wildlife.
I know you are inspired by the powerful storytellers, conservationists, cutting-edge scientists, and educators who make up our international Explorer community. Every day our Explorers push the boundaries of traditional thinking in ways that fundamentally change our world, but urgent challenges to our planet demand faster progress. Working together, we can act boldly to protect our planet.
Thank you in advance for your support and generosity of this important work.
Sincerely, | | Wudassie Teklehaimanot Senior Director, Annual Giving & Membership National Geographic Society
