| Dear Friend,
What if I told you that humans aren’t the only species with self-awareness, empathy, and complex social hierarchy?
What if I told you that elephants feel the same things—that they even experience the childlike joy of recognizing themselves in the mirror for the first time and the unfathomable pain of the losses of loved ones?
As we begin to discover what secrets elephants may hold, wildlife around the world is struggling to find a place called “home” more than ever before. Our planet is at an inflection point, and it demands urgent action.
National Geographic Society Explorers are fighting to ensure a brighter future for our planet—and as we face challenges from global warming to habitat encroachment, their work is increasingly vital. We’re counting on your support to help sustain their essential conservation efforts.
And thanks to the generosity of Michael and Sandra Ruddick and several anonymous Society donors, your gift will now be MATCHED 3X — TRIPLING the impact of your contribution. But time is running out!
| The National Geographic Society has been a leader in the work to protect our planet for 135 years. We've funded more than 15,000 science, research, education, and storytelling Explorer-led projects across the world. Our Explorers are making incredible strides, including helping to protect keystone species like elephants and working with local communities to improve relations between wildlife and humans. In Kenya, Explorer Paula Kahumbu works to reduce poaching and is helping educate the next generation of conservationists. In Botswana, Explorer Koketso “Koki” Mookodoi takes local educators on expeditions through the Okavango River Basin to inspire them to incorporate conservation into their classrooms.
Your Contributing Membership gift today can help empower the world's most innovative changemakers to find solutions to the myriad obstacles facing our planet.
