Shinzo Abe, Japan's longest-serving prime minister, was assassinated during a public speech. He was 67. A suspect was arrested.

Mr. Abe served two terms as prime minister, from 2006 to 2007, and from 2012 to 2020. He resigned in 2020 because of ill health. Follow our live coverage.
