As the first female combat veteran to serve in the United States Senate, I’ve learned a lot about leadership, sacrifice, and what it truly means to serve something bigger than yourself.
When I commanded troops in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, we faced miserable conditions. We laced up our boots, strapped on our Kevlar, and took on dangerous missions every day.
We didn’t do it for praise or glory, we did it because we knew we were fighting for something bigger than ourselves — for each other and for this country.
